After Dental Surgery Instruction

Some bleeding is normal after any dental surgery, tooth pull out, teeth extraction. If excessive bleeding continues, roll a piece of gauze as tightly as possible to 1/2 inch thick, place over dental surgery site and bite down hard against the gum for 15 min. to an hour.

Avoid liquids either hot or cold on teeth. If bleeding continues, moisten a teabag, place it in the surgery site, add gauze roll on top and bite firmly for half an hour.

Avoid rinsing your mouth for 12 to 24 hours after dental surgery. This is to avoid displacing the blood clot which is there to help healing. When you rinse, use solution of 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water.

Swelling is common after surgery. Should some swelling occur, apply an ice bag for 15 min. and repeat the procedure if necessary until swelling recedes.

Do not use a straw!!!

Eat soft food and a minimum of liquids are advisable for at least 24 hours. Avoid getting particles of food or liquid into the empty space. Pain and discomfort will be treated with appropriate medication. Carefully follow the directions of the prescription label. If excessive bleeding, pain or swelling occurs call the office.

After White filling
COMPOSITE RESTORATIONS, POSTERIOR TEETH

We have used state-of-the art materials and techniques to place tooth-colored “composite” restorations in your teeth. While these composite fillings generally do not last as long as silver amalgam, they have the following advantages:

* Often, less tooth structure is removed to prepare for the filling
* Composites are tooth-colored and therefore look natural
* Composites adhere to tooth structure, they can strengthen and reinforce the remaining tooth structure
* TODAY: If you feel a “rough spot,” or your teeth hit too hard on the filling as you bite, or floss snags around the edge of a filling, let us know so we can smooth that area. It’s alright to eat soft foods immediately, wait several hours before chewing harder foods.

* DIET RESTRICTIONS: It is not advisable to chew ice (with or without composite fillings) because the extreme temperature and pressure differential can crack teeth and composites. Very hard foods (hard candy, raw carrots, bones) should be avoided because the composite can be broken from the tooth.

* SENSITIVE TEETH: Sometimes teeth are sensitive after fillings. If you have sensitivity to cold that is mild and brief (seconds), this should go away in several weeks. If you have hot or cold sensitivity that is severe and prolonged (more than five minutes) or sensitivity to sweets or biting pressure, please call.

* RECALLS: Composite fillings are more susceptible to decay at the edges than silver amalgam. Six-month cleanings and exam give us the opportunity to monitor these restorations and detect problems in the early stages.

* HOME CARE: To obtain optimum longevity for your restorations and prevent future dental decay and supporting tissue breakdown, we recommend the following:

Brush after eating and brush and floss before bedtime.
